Our company, which is an environmentally friendly organization, uses 100% waste paper, which has no value on its own as a raw material, and brings packaging waste to the national economy.
To meet the waste paper needs of our mills, we have three waste paper collection and sorting plants, namely Aksu Çevre Danışmanlık Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. (AKDÖSAN) in Bursa, Adana and Erzurum, which have a collection and sorting facility license issued by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. The recovered paper we purchase for reuse from these facilities and other suppliers in various provinces reduces the amount of waste that ends up in landfills in our country and prevents nearly 4 million trees from being cut down each year. At our facilities in Kahramanmaraş and Kütahya, about 400,000 metric tons of waste paper are processed annually and brought back to the economy. According to statistics, the use of 1 metric ton of waste paper saves the lives of 17 trees and prevents the destruction of thousands of hectares of forest land.
In 2003, our company put into operation a coal-fired combined heat and power plant at our Kahramanmaraş mill to meet the demand for electrical energy and steam. In 2012, the second cogeneration plant fueled by natural gas was commissioned at our newly built plant in Kütahya. Because of our sensitivity to energy efficiency, we strive to leave a more livable country for our future generations and contribute to the national economy by participating in various activities of the ENVER project in our province, of which we are a voluntary supporter.
With the responsibility of being an environmentally conscious company and with the awareness of leaving a more livable environment for future generations, our company commissioned a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 6,000 m³/day in 2008, which was inaugurated by Mr. Veysel EROĞLU, Minister of Environment and Forestry, and started paper production with the commissioning of the wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 4,000 m³/day at our second paper mill in Kütahya. These facilities clean the wastewater generated during production and make it harmless to the environment. In addition, a large part of this treated wastewater is recycled by making it usable again in production. In this way, it contributes to the protection of Turkey’s and the world’s water resources in terms of sustainable water consumption and management, the importance of which is increasing day by day.
